A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Laboratory Technologist II specializing in Hematology Technical Support. This role involves coordinating laboratory operations, providing expertise on quality control, and collaborating with various professionals. Candidates must possess strong communication skills and a background in laboratory technology. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager at Northern Lights RHC/Rural East, the Laboratory Technologist II – Hematology Technical Support will utilize advanced technical skills to assist laboratories across the North Zone. Responsibilities include providing expertise on instrument work-ups, quality control, troubleshooting, procedures, and processes in collaboration with pathologists, laboratory Hematology and Chemistry managers, and operational leadership. This role offers an opportunity to demonstrate organizational, leadership, and project management skills. Work location is negotiable. Candidates must be qualified CLXT or MLT professionals with strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and tact in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians. The position works closely with the Chemistry Consultant Technologist and Provincial Technologists.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate daily laboratory operations and quality control functions. You may lead support for Laboratory Information System (LIS), site education, quality assurance, or research programs. Responsibilities include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring, and assigning work to MLTs, providing technical advice, troubleshooting instruments, and participating in technical procedures to ensure high-quality laboratory performance.
Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications: Active or eligible for registration with CMLTA or Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists (ACCLXT). Minimum of five years of full-time laboratory experience, including at least three years in Hematology and Chemistry within the past five years. Experience with quality control, reagent and instrument work-ups, procedure development, troubleshooting, and method or equipment evaluation. Experience with LIS user acceptance testing, team supervision, and familiarity with accreditation standards. Strong computer skills, laboratory safety knowledge, and leadership abilities are also required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience troubleshooting Sysmex analyzers, ACL analyzers, Ortho Vitros analyzers, Beckman Access, i-STAT, Triage Meter, Unity, Caresphere Middleware, and Connect Care/Epic LIS. Supervisory experience within the past six years.
