Job description

Position Overview

Rutgers University – Newark is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant to support day‑to‑day operations in the Gluck Lab of the Center for Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience. The role will assist in research studies, data analysis, and participant care for the Rutgers African American Brain Health Initiative (AABHI) and related projects.

Responsibilities
  • Support research studies for the Rutgers African American Brain Health Initiative (AABHI).
  • Conduct health screenings and assess eligibility of study candidates.
  • Administer neuropsychological and physical tests, perform initial data interpretation and archive data.
  • Administer fMRI scans and assist other laboratory personnel with analysis.
  • Operate a Polysomnography (PSG) device to conduct nap/sleep studies and collaborate on analysis.
  • Help develop and implement new cognitive tasks.
  • Coordinate community and university‑based educational events for survivors of sexual violence.
  • This position is contingent on the continuation of external funding.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline or equivalent education and laboratory experience.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interface with the public, manage difficult situations, and communicate effectively with research participants.
  • Adherence to policies and regulations for working with human subjects.
  • Completion of required training, including fMRI training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree.
  • Experience in writing research protocols, grants, and scientific publications.
  • Experience with the administration and interpretation of neuropsychological assessments.

Employment Details

Physical Demands
  • Comfortable in a fast‑paced laboratory environment.
  • Adherence to university, campus, and center policies for research labs and human subjects, including protection of minors.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with safety procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Training & Certifications

Applicants must complete all necessary training, including fMRI training, and adhere to relevant policies for working with human subjects.
