Job summary

Highmark Health in the United States is seeking an individual to receive, prepare, and process specimens delivered to the laboratory. The role includes registering patients and entering test orders into the LIS accurately, verifying specimen identification, and maintaining an organized work area.

The position also involves supporting reporting, operating and maintaining instrumentation, mentoring MLA students, and performing other duties as assigned in a HIPAA-compliant environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 months experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Registration and medical terminology knowledge are required; may be gained through training or degree program.
• Preferred laboratory training program or degree in clinical sciences.

Responsibilities

• Registers patients and performs test order entry into the laboratory information system accurately and efficiently.
• Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens according to procedures.
• Maintains cleanliness of the work area and ensures adequate supplies for operations.
• Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs.
• Operates and maintains instrumentation and troubleshoots problems as needed.
• Mentors MLA students in specimen processing per WPAHS policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
