Job summary

LCMC Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support medical technologists and lab staff in procedural setup, specimen handling, and clerical duties. The role involves preparing testing, labeling and routing specimens, and maintaining accurate records in the LIS.

Responsibilities include routine lab testing, inventory checks, specimen collection assistance, and document scanning within the hospital information system. This position is full-time and on-site in the United States.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist medical technologists with procedural setup, specimen processing, and related tasks.
• Label, process, and distribute specimens according to department standards.
• Set up lab testing and/or procedures for medical technologists to read.
• Perform routine laboratory testing.
• Respond to specimen receipt and route within the LIS, matching orders and entering collection information.
• Maintain the rejection log with communication documentation.
• Provide clerical duties: retrieve laboratory results and fax to the office/unit when appropriate.
• Scan necessary documents into the hospital information system.
• Check instruments and benches for reagents and supplies; notify when inventory is low.
• Assist with specimen collection and determine collection requirements and techniques for the requested tests.
