Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to receive, prepare, and process specimens and to assist with test order entry in the laboratory information system. You will verify specimens, maintain a clean work area, and support phone and report workflows.

The role involves operating instruments, identifying issues, and mentoring MLA students, with additional duties as assigned. HIPAA and privacy compliance are emphasized throughout.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 months experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Registration and medical terminology knowledge required.
• Preferred laboratory training program or degree in clinical sciences.

Responsibilities

• Registers patients and performs test order entry into laboratory information system accurately.
• Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens according to procedures and protocols.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and ensures supplies are adequate for efficient operations.
• Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs.
• Operates and maintains instrumentation, recognizes problems and takes appropriate action.
• Mentors MLA students in specimen processing following WPAHS policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
