Job summary

Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to receive, prepare, and process specimens for testing in our clinical laboratory. The role focuses on accurate test order entry, specimen handling, and maintaining cleanliness to ensure efficient operations.

Qualifications

• 3 months of clinical laboratory experience and medical terminology knowledge.
• Registration requirements as applicable to the lab role.
• Training or degree in clinical sciences preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers patients and performs test order entry into the laboratory information system.
• Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies.
• Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs.
• Operates and maintains instrumentation, recognizes problems and takes appropriate action.
• Mentors MLA students in specimen processing utilizing WPAHS policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
