Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy-oriented professional to support the laboratory workflow. The role involves registering patients, entering test orders, processing specimens, and maintaining a clean, stocked work area.

Responsibilities include answering calls, sending reports, mentoring MLA students, and performing waived testing as required. A high school diploma is required with preferred certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred Graduate of a medical assistant program or a phlebotomy program receiving a medical assistant or phlebotomy certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers patients and performs test order entry into laboratory information system accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and charges of patient account.
• Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations. Stocks supplies.
• Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs.
• Mentors MLA students in specimen processing utilizing AHN policies and procedures.
• Orders, performs and results waived testing.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
