Job summary

TriCore Reference Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, is seeking a Laboratory Scientist to perform waived, moderate, or high complexity tests under supervision. You will run/validate quality control, troubleshoot equipment, and assist with POCT oversight in a busy hospital blood bank setting.

The role involves rotating shifts, weekend coverage as needed, and collaborating with supervisors and pathologists to ensure accurate patient testing and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical science or equivalent per CLIA regulations.
• Alternative pathways include associate degree with required science coursework and medical laboratory technology training.
• Certifications such as ASCP/AMT preferred for higher levels.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived, moderate, or high complexity laboratory testing under supervision and document results.
• Note abnormal results and inform supervisor or pathologist as appropriate.
• Operate laboratory equipment/interfaces and perform basic maintenance procedures.
• Log and monitor quality control data; investigate and document deviations.
• Troubleshoot testing issues using defined guidelines and participate in corrective actions.
• Participate in regulatory inspections and maintain QA documentation.
• Assist with inventory and ordering of supplies; train new staff or students.
• Serve as liaison with internal/external customers and staff involved in testing.
• Support POCT oversight, including training and validation where required.
• Collect and prepare specimens (blood, urine, sputum, etc.) for analysis.
