Job summary

The State of Ohio via the ODNR invites applications for the Laboratory Scientist 2 position based at the Cambridge Environmental Lab in Guernsey County. The role focuses on chemical analyses, quality control, and data management within the Division of Oil & Gas.

Starting pay is $28.76 per hour with potential increases over the first 7.5 years, and COLA and longevity pay may apply. A valid driver's license is required and the workweek is Mon-Fri, 8-5.

Qualifications

  • 42 mos. pertinent laboratory experience commensurate with job duties to be performed as outlined per approved position description on file.
  • Undergraduate core coursework in a biological, chemical, natural or physical science.
  • Master of Science core program in a biological, chemical, natural or physical science.
  • 12 months exp as Laboratory Scientist 1, 83291.
  • Equivalent minimum qualifications for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests that require specialized knowledge, training, and judgment.
  • Conduct complete chemical analysis on gasses, water, and organic/inorganic matter using laboratory equipment.
  • Document sample information and test results in a laboratory information system.
  • Perform quality control functions as described in protocols on assigned tests.
  • Implement analytical procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Monitor equipment and perform routine maintenance.

Job Description
What you will do:
  • Perform laboratory tests that require specialized knowledge, training, and judgment
  • Conduct complete chemical analysis (e.g., titrimetric, spectrometric, electrometric, inductively coupled plasma, chromatographic) on gasses, water, and organic/inorganic matter utilizing computerized laboratory equipment
  • Utilize a laboratory information management system to accurately document sample information and laboratory test results
  • Perform quality control functions as described in protocols on assigned tests
  • Implement analytical procedures & methodologies to ensure compliance with federal & state requirements
  • Monitor equipment to evaluate operating efficiency & to diagnose malfunctionsn
  • Perform routine maintenance and maintain laboratory equipment & instruments
  • Track & order laboratory equipment & supplies as needed
  • Assist in coordination of gas sampling programs
  • Use computer to input & process test data
  • Calibrate & maintain records on testing equipment
  • Starting hourly pay of $28.76/hr with multiple pay increases over your first 7.5 years of service, with an end salary of $38.01/hr.
  • There may also be cost of living adjustments (COLA) applied. Longevity pay supplements begin after five (5) years of state service. For more details, refer to the OCSEA Employees | Department of Administrative Services .
