Job summary

UVA Health is seeking a Laboratory Manager to lead three Cancer Center laboratories, including two startup sites in Fishersville and Pantops. You will guide startup planning, staffing, and quality initiatives to ensure exceptional patient care across locations.

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Laboratories, you will drive regulatory readiness, collaborate with Oncology leaders, and build a cohesive leadership team focused on service excellence and outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
• 2+ years supervisory/managerial experience in a complex health environment (4+ preferred).
• Experience with CAP accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of laboratory operations across three outpatient cancer center laboratories.
• Lead startup planning and operational readiness for new laboratory locations.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop laboratory personnel.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, performance management, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Partner with Oncology Service Line leaders and key laboratory stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Core Laboratory, Phlebotomy, Point of Care Testing, and Customer Service leadership teams.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards.
• Support implementation and validation of new laboratory equipment, instruments, and testing methodologies.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, innovation, and service excellence.
