Job summary

UVA Health, part of The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia, seeks a Laboratory Manager to lead three Cancer Center labs and drive startup efforts for two new locations in Fishersville and Pantops.

You will guide operations, recruit and develop staff, and partner with Oncology leadership to deliver high-quality patient care and compliant laboratory services across Virginia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in MLS/CLS or related field is required.
• Demonstrated laboratory leadership experience.
• Experience managing laboratory personnel and operations.
• Strong project management skills.
• Knowledge of CAP accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead teams across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight of laboratory operations across three outpatient cancer center laboratories.
• Lead startup planning and operational readiness for new locations.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop laboratory personnel.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, performance management and engagement initiatives.
• Partner with Oncology leaders and key laboratory stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Core Laboratory, Phlebotomy and Customer Service leadership teams.
• Ensure regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards are met.
• Support implementation and validation of new equipment and testing methodologies.
• Drive continuous improvement for quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and service excellence.
