Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System Corporation seeks a Laboratory Billing Specialist to organize, supervise, and perform billing operations within the Laboratory. This role acts as the primary billing resource and liaises between Laboratory Operations and Revenue Cycle to ensure accurate and compliant reimbursement for laboratory services.

Requires knowledge of registration, coding, patient financial services, and payor-specific billing requirements in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related subject.
• One year of experience in healthcare billing, laboratory operations, laboratory billing or revenue cycle functions.

Responsibilities

• Maintains knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS and revenue codes for laboratory services.
• Reviews and resolves charge capture, coding, and revenue integrity checks.
• Ensures changes comply with AMA, payor requirements, and HCSRC methodology.
• Identifies charge capture opportunities and process improvements.
• Performs internal reviews and audits to validate billing accuracy and compliance.
• Codes new and miscellaneous tests for appropriate reimbursement and compliance.
• Performs manual charge entry for billing miscellaneous laboratory tests.
• Collaborates with Revenue Cycle, Coding and Patient Financial Services to resolve billing discrepancies and reduce denials.
