Job summary

Tahoe Forest Health System is seeking a laboratory assistant to support patient testing in our on-site laboratory. You will verify patient registration, prioritize and enter orders, process specimens, and enter results in the EMR while maintaining accurate records.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, phlebotomy certification or CPT1 preferred, and prior lab support experience. Training and competency assessments apply; cooperation with the lab team and adherence to safety

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; 1–3 months related experience or training may suffice.
• Previous phlebotomy experience required; CPT1 or higher preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verifies accuracy of patient registration in computer.
• Prioritizes and enters orders.
• Receives and processes laboratory orders, results and reports; enters data into the EMR.
• Answers phones and routes calls as appropriate.
• Processes and packages specimens for delivery to main or reference laboratories.
• Reviews pending logs and reports each shift.
• May perform legal drug collection and EBT.
• Maintains inventory and notifies supervisor when stock is low.
• Cleans glassware and may transport specimens to other locations.
• Follows system values, policies, and procedures.
