Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Licensed Laboratory Assistant or Medical Technician (NV) or eligible to apply within 9 months.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Identifies patients and properly collects blood samples for specified testing and transports specimens to the laboratory.
• Draws and/or collects lab specimens, ensuring that all patient records are verified.
• Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, and transporting of specimens.
• Provides instructions to patients regarding collection preparation and procedures.
• Performs specimen accessioning in the LIS with correct patient data and orders.
• Assists with pre-analytical processing including centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Communicates with health care providers about specimen collection and test adds.
• Prioritizes STAT, ASAP, time-critical and routine testing.
• Perform routine maintenance, decontamination, quality assurance and inventory management.
• Participates in quality improvement by assisting in data collection and monitoring of quality indicators.
