Job summary

St. David's North Austin Medical Center in Texas is seeking a Laboratory Assistant PRN to perform a range of clinical and clerical tasks in the laboratory.

You will conduct phlebotomy, specimen processing, microbiology and histology support, prepare specimens for referral, and help with result reporting while maintaining accurate records.

This role requires up-to-date high school education and phlebotomy training; prior hospital phlebotomy experience is preferred and provided with benefits.

Qualifications

• 1 year of hospital phlebotomy experience (if primary responsibility is phlebotomy).
• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Formal phlebotomy training from an accredited program – preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary collection appropriate to specific age groups.
• Collect, process, and transport specimens.
• Identify proper tubes, containers, transport media, and storage temperature for each test type.
• Ensure positive identification of each patient and respective samples.
• Keep collection trays and outpatient collection area neat and well stocked.
• Assist in microbiology, including plating cultures and quality checks.
• Assist in histology, including basic procedures and specimen tracking.
• Answer phones, relay messages, and transfer patient test results.
