Methodist Hospital Stone Oak in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Clinical Lab Assistant to support the laboratory under supervision of the Lab Director and supervisors, performing specimen processing, basic tests, and instrument setup.

The role requires a high school diploma, phlebotomy certification preferred, and may involve phlebotomy, basic QC, and clerical duties; familiarity with regulatory standards is expected, with opportunities to grow within a leading hospital network.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Graduate of phlebotomy course required; if not completed, 1 year lab experience or science coursework.
• Basic computer keyboarding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Processes specimens for the section; prepares blood smears and body fluid slides, centrifuges specimens, streaks microbiology plates, prepares specimens for transport to reference labs.
• Understands laboratory methods; performs moderate complexity testing and correlates disease states with test results.
• Sets up instruments and performs basic equipment maintenance.
• Performs basic quality control and data entry; handles clerical duties such as phone calls, filing, and inventory.
• May perform phlebotomy, point-of-care and waived testing as designated.
• Ensures work complies with laboratory regulatory standards.
