Job summary

St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Assistant PRN to join the team.

You will perform venipuncture and capillary collection, collect, process, and transport specimens, ensure proper identification, and maintain stocked collection areas at the Round Rock facility. Responsibilities include assisting in microbiology and histology as needed, answering phones, relaying results, and distributing reports, with emphasis on quality control and patient safety.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Experience with venipuncture and specimen collection for multiple age groups preferred.
• Attention to patient safety and proper identification processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary collection appropriate to age groups.
• Collect, process, and transport specimens.
• Identify proper tubes, containers, and transport media for tests.
• Maintain neat, stocked collection areas and patient trays.
• Assist in microbiology tasks including plating cultures and QC checks.
• Assist in histology tasks and specimen tracking as needed.
• Answer phones, relay messages, and transfer test results.
• Distribute reports to HIM, physicians, and clients.
