Job summary

West Virginia in Charleston is seeking a mid-level technician for the Newborn Screening Section. You will receive and process incoming specimens for laboratory testing and enter demographic and specimen data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Duties include performing data entry checks, handling supplies, and assisting with the preparation of specimen collection kits. Work is done under general supervision and supports quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.
• Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in medical or other laboratory work.
• Substitution: college coursework with physical/biological sciences hours or an associate degree may substitute for experience.

Job description

May include receiving and distributing supplies and work in preparing specimen collection kits. Duties are performed under general supervision.

Training:

Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.

Experience:

Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in medical or other laboratory work.

Substitution:

Successfully completed study in an accredited college or university which included at least ten semester hours in physical or biological sciences or an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology. Completion of a recognized laboratory assistant course from a vocational school may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
