Job summary

State-of-West-Virgini in the Newborn Screening Section is seeking a mid-level laboratory specialist to support routine newborn testing. You will receive and process specimens, enter demographic and specimen data into the LIMS, and perform data-entry checks to ensure accuracy.

Duties may include receiving supplies and preparing specimen collection kits. Work is conducted under general supervision in a clinical laboratory setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of full-time or equivalent laboratory experience.
• An associate degree in laboratory science or medical technology may substitute for experience.

Nature of WorkThis is a mid-level position in the Newborn Screening Section. Duties include receiving and processing incoming specimens for laboratory testing, entering demographic and specimen data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and performing data entry checks on data entered into the LIMS. May include receiving and distributing supplies and work in preparing specimen collection kits. Duties are performed under general supervision.Minimum QualificationsTraining: Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in medical or other laboratory work.Substitution: Successfully completed study in an accredited college or university which included at least ten semester hours in physical or biological sciences or an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology. Completion of a recognized laboratory assistant course from a vocational school may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
