Job summary

Goodwin Recruiting partners with a community hospital to lead a brand-new maternity OB unit, providing leadership while staying connected to patient care. The role emphasizes structure, consistency, and support for a tenured team across Labor & Delivery, postpartum, and nursery services.

The ideal candidate has strong OB/L&D leadership experience, a history of managing teams, and a clinical foundation that supports hands-on involvement when needed.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Indiana or ability to obtain.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• 5+ years of nursing experience.
• Strong Labor & Delivery/Obstetrics background required.
• BSN preferred.
• Previous leadership, charge, supervisory, or management experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible leadership across a 24/7 OB operation, including presence with night-shift staff.
• Lead approximately 30 team members across Labor & Delivery, postpartum, and nursery services.
• Establish consistent communication, expectations, and accountability across shifts.
• Partner with OB physicians, nursery providers, nursing leadership, and support departments.
• Strengthen employee engagement, morale, and team performance.
• Remain clinically knowledgeable and step in to support staff when needed.
• Oversee staffing, performance management, quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and department operations.
• Help staff understand the “why” behind decisions and organizational changes.

Requirements & Qualifications

Preferred Background & Skills

• Current or previous OB/L&D Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Supervisor, or experienced Charge RN
• Strong hands-on Labor & Delivery experience
• Experience leading established or tenured nursing teams
• Maternal/newborn, postpartum, nursery, or perinatal experience
• Experience with performance improvement, patient safety, staffing, budgeting, and regulatory compliance
• Collaborative, steady leadership style with strong communication and relationship-building skills
