International Paper seeks a Label Assistant Operator - Automaton in Roanoke, VA, to support the Automaton Label Laminator. You will assist in machine setup, monitor quality, and maintain throughput to meet customer needs.

The role requires following safety rules, basic reading of measurements, and teamwork to resolve issues. Overtime and weekends may be required to support production demands.

Qualifications

• Must follow all safety rules and procedures; always watch out for self and team members’ safety.
• Must understand and carry out housekeeping standards.
• Must demonstrate teamwork and resolve issues effectively and professionally.
• Must be capable of running machines at safe speeds and top quality to meet customer needs.
• Demonstrated ability to detect, prevent, and resolve quality issues, involving management for resolution.
• Must be able to read a standard tape measure, read, and thoroughly understand job specifications, and follow written and oral directions.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day safe operation of the Automaton Label Laminator.

• Maintain productivity and throughput levels at the machine.

The Label Assistant Operator-Automaton is responsible to the Automaton Operator for the day-to-day safe operation of the Automaton Label Laminator. The Labeler Assistant Operator-Automaton can demonstrate understanding of mechanical functions of the Laminator and trouble-shooting aspects.Understands basic principles of corrugated, flutes, corrugation direction, and can identify various substrates. Understands the label inventory system and formatting and determines which direction the label should be placed in relation to the direction of the corrugation. Capable of determining the number of labels that need to be loaded as well as being able to gang run labels based on plant needs and efficiency. Assists in the setting up of the machine and stacker section.Ensures the quality of the finished product produced at the machine. Assures that productivity and throughput levels are maintained at the machine. Responsible for assisting in run-rate improvements, quality improvements, and downtime elimination at the machine center.Responsible for all associated order paperwork, reports, as well as SAP feedback.

• Must follow all safety rules and procedures; always watch out for self and team members’ safety. Always follow lock out and tag out; always use personal protective equipment (safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes & safety vest).
• Must understand and carry out housekeeping standards.
• Must demonstrate teamwork and resolve issues effectively and professionally.
• Must be capable of running machines at safe speeds and top quality to meet customer needs.
• Demonstrated ability to detect, prevent, and resolve quality issues, involving management for resolution of issues or confirming quality expectations as needed.
• Must be able to read a standard tape measure, read, and thoroughly understand job specifications, and follow written and oral directions.
• Demonstrated ability to add and subtract all units of measure read and copy figures, and count and record figures.
• A comprehension level is required to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in English in written or oral form and to deal with problems.
• Constant standing, walking, and reaching at or below shoulder level; frequent twisting, bending, and lifting from the ground; repetitive lifting up to 35 pounds.
• Must be willing and able to work daily and weekly overtime, including weekends, as business conditions require.
• All other duties as assigned.
