Job Title: Laboratory Technician - Blood Bank

Position Details: 1.0 FTE, Full-time, Evening Shift (8 hours), Location: Stanford Blood Center, 3373 Hillview Ave, Palo Alto, CA. This is a Stanford Blood Center job.

Overview:

Prepare clinical specimens for laboratory testing, including receiving, accessioning, aliquoting, and processing specimens. Set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and assist in validation of laboratory instruments. Conduct quality control measurements, including environmental, equipment/software, and product quality controls.

Location:

Stanford Blood Center

Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare clinical samples and products for testing, following laboratory protocols.
  2. Set up and maintain laboratory instruments, including programming, reagent replenishment, and cleaning.
  3. Perform quality control measures and document results.
  4. Train backup staff and suggest workflow improvements.
  5. Assist with inventory management and laboratory maintenance.
  6. Maintain sample inventories, including receipt, processing, storage, and disposal, and update databases.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; 2 years college education in biology or related field preferred.
  • 1 year relevant laboratory experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Attention to detail, ability to handle samples accurately, and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with laboratory instruments and critical thinking skills.
  • Adherence to laboratory policies and protocols.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions:

Includes frequent walking, standing, bending, hand use, and computer work. Lifting up to 40+ lbs may be required. Work environment involves working around equipment, biohazards, and occasional exposure to chemicals.

The salary range is generally $43.29 - $48.59 per hour, based on experience, education, and other factors. The final salary will be determined accordingly.
