Job summary

Ergon, Inc. in Tampa, FL seeks a Lab Technician for our manufacturing facility. The candidate will work in an asphalt lab, wear PPE, and support testing of petroleum products while collaborating with engineering and production teams.

Duties include developing methods, documenting data, assisting with calibration, and maintaining safety and compliance; training under current staff, producing test samples, and responding to critical equipment needs as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and/or laboratory experience.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate measurement instruments.
• Willing to work in an asphalt lab with PPE.

Responsibilities

• Train under current lab technician for eventual assignment.
• Develop and optimize lab methodologies for testing petroleum products.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot issues.
• Document experimental procedures, results and data per quality standards.
• Provide analytical support for research, process, and operations.
• Assist in internal audits for testing procedures, calibrations and reports.
• Maintain calibration and maintenance documents for instrumentation.
• Generate laboratory data reports for product quality and regulatory compliance.
• Uphold safety protocols and promote a safety culture.
• Respond off-hours if needed for critical equipment and testing.
• Perform physical and analytical tests as required.
• Produce sample batches for testing (1–20 gallons).
• Prepare product sample requests and fill batches for shipping.
• Obtain samples of raw materials from plant for lab use.
• Keep the working area clean and handle hazardous materials.

Associated Asphalt an Ergon Company located in Tampa, FL is seeking a Lab Technician for our manufacturing facility.

The position requires a willingness to work in an asphalt lab, someone who is not allergic or sensitive to industrial chemicals or solvents, and a willingness to wear personal protection equipment, as required.

Lab Technician Duties and Responsibilities:

• Will train under present lab technician for eventual assignment to a lab technician
• Develop and optimize laboratory methodologies for testing petroleum products
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues
• Document experimental procedures, results and analytical data in compliance with quality management standards
• Provide special, non-routine analytical support for research, process, and operations
• Assist in maintaining an internal audit program for testing procedures, calibrations, calibration verifications and results reporting
• Assist in maintaining calibration and maintenance documents for instrumentation
• Generate laboratory data reports as necessary for product quality and regulatory compliance
• Ensure laboratory safety protocols are adhered to and promote a culture of safety within the team
• Respond in off-hours if needed to assist with critical equipment and testing
• Perform physical and analytical test, as required
• Produce sample batches for testing, 1-20 gallons
• Prepare product sample requests
• Fill sample batches for shipping
• Obtain samples of raw materials from plant for lab use
• Keep the working area clean
• Handling hazardous material as required
• Quality Control - perform general quality control functions and testing
• Any other duties assigned by Lab Technician and Facility Manager

Lab Technician Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma (or GED) and/or laboratory experience
• Good Math Skills
• Able to lift and handle up to 50 lbs.
• Able to accurately work with various instruments of measurement
• Able to learn sampling and test methods
• Able to learn computer skills
• Able to read and follow written instructions and work well with others
• Able to work without direct supervision, good communication skills
