Job Summary

Performs technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles.

Responsibilities
  • Confers with senior laboratory personnel regarding procedures and techniques, recommending modifications as needed.
  • Performs specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment.
  • Procures supplies and materials needed for laboratory research.
  • Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information for research.
  • Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data, and prepares reports summarizing results.
  • May supervise the care of research animals; perform minor animal surgeries or collect tissues and specimens for analysis.
  • Orders supplies and experimental materials needed for research.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Nearly Continuously: Office environment, hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Infectious disease exposure, oils, hazards, repetitive hand motions, walking, standing, sitting.

Seldom: Exposure to animals, bending, reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, and terminology. Skilled in laboratory equipment use, statistical analysis, and report preparation. Effective communication skills required. OSHA training and animal care certification may be required.
