The Venero Galanternik Lab in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Technician to help establish our new lab and advance our research in the meninges.
The candidate will work directly with the principal investigator, receiving training in zebrafish technical procedures, developmental and molecular biology techniques, and managing lab organization, including animal handling, reagent prep, ordering, and record keeping. Experience with zebrafish experimentation, tissue dissection, surgeries, injections, and cellular dissociations is preferred. Responsibilities also include maintaining lab areas and equipment, inventory management, and assisting in training new lab members. Candidates from groups historically excluded from science are strongly encouraged to apply.
Work is mainly in an office environment with occasional exposure to infectious agents, chemicals, oils, and animals. Physical demands include hearing, talking, repetitive hand motions, walking, standing, sitting, and occasional bending or reaching overhead.
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience. Knowledge of lab techniques, equipment, and terminology. Skills in data analysis, report writing, and effective communication. OSHA training and animal care certification may be required.
