Qualifications

  • Education: Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience: 3+ years in a laboratory setting.

  • Direct others as needed and supervise/evaluate Phlebotomy Techs and Lab Outpatient Coordinator.
  • Maintain lab computer systems and ensure timely reporting and filing of results.

Job description

Job Summary and Qualifications

Primary responsibility is the accurate and timely performance of laboratory tests as assigned. In the absence of the Director of Laboratory Services, the most senior supervisor, based on years of service at Fairview Park Hospital, is responsible for the overall operations of the laboratory. This includes providing and supervising high‑quality lab tests, quality control, preventive maintenance of equipment, computer activities, and specimen collection.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all Lab Section Management activities including staff training and development, procedure implementation/monitoring, inventory management/control, quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, safety administration, productivity monitoring, and public relations.
  • Perform STAT testing quickly and accurately, requiring multi‑tasking skills under stressful demands.
  • Assume the role of Medical Technologist Shift Supervisor or work under the direction of the Medical Technologist Shift Supervisor when required.
  • Perform all related lab computer activities assigned.
  • Maintain position descriptions, performance evaluations, competency assessments, and supervise/evaluate Phlebotomy Techs and Lab Outpatient Coordinator.
  • Maintain work schedules and assignments for Med. Techs, Phlebotomy Techs, and Lab Outpatient Coordinator.
  • Take necessary action to assure a productive system.
  • Monitor the laboratory reporting system to ensure accurate charting, prompt reporting of external lab reports, coordination of reference lab testing, and adequate filing.
  • Maintain the laboratory phlebotomy inventory system, ensuring the computer system is updated weekly and physical inventories are reported accurately and timely.
  • Assist with marketing of laboratory services.
  • Ensure Outpatient and SDS collection stations and Phlebotomy Tech areas are kept orderly and clean.
  • Accept accountability for completion of assignments, demonstrate reliability and dependability (including compliance with the attendance policy), and use time and material cost‑effectively.
  • Continue self‑development, provide leadership, and actively participate in Performance Improvement Activities.
  • Direct others as needed.
  • Reflect HCA values, ethical, and compliance principles in daily activities (Code of Conduct).
Qualifications
  • Certification: (CLT/CLS) Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist, (MLT-State) Medical Lab Technician – State, (MLS) Medical Laboratory Scientist, or (MT‑AAB) Medical Technologist.
  • Education: Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience: 3+ years in a laboratory setting.
