Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a lab science such as chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or closely related field or equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA standards.
• National certification by ASCP or equivalent in medical laboratory science or related categories (e.g., Microbiology, Hematology, Chemistry) or eligible per ABHES/NAACLS
• One year experience in a clinical laboratory
• Ability to operate equipment and perform tests and interpret results accurately
• RI State CLS License with continuing education (minimum 15 hours/year) and current knowledge of clinical laboratory theories

Responsibilities

• Receives specimens, confirms patient IDs, validates orders and labels to avoid contamination.
• Prepares reagents and stains; checks expiration dates and QC materials.
• Performs complex tests using EIA, IFA, Chemiluminescence, RIA, electrophoresis, immunoassays and colorimetry.
• Interprets results, collaborates with colleagues to verify unusual results, reports to physicians/DOH.
• Instructs students/residents and trains new staff; maintains instruments and QC.
