Job summary

The University of Virginia seeks a Laboratory Safety Consultant to support safe and compliant research, education, and support services across the UVA community. The consultant will conduct laboratory inspections, provide safety guidance to faculty and staff, investigate incidents, manage chemical inventory compliance, and assist with training programs.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Research Safety, this role requires a background in science or engineering, strong communication skills,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or Associates with 4 years work experience, or High School diploma with 6 years work experience)
• Valid driver's license with zero or positive points balance and at least 2 years driving experience
• Knowledge of environmental health and safety practices, including OSHA, EPA, and ANSI standards
• Understanding of safe laboratory practices, hazardous materials, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and work independently and as part of a team
