Job summary

Stanford Health Care is seeking a Lab Support/Accessioning role to assist with receiving, accessioning, and processing patient specimens in a fast-paced hospital laboratory.

Responsibilities include data entry, distribution of reports, and collaborating with physicians and nursing units. The position emphasizes accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to lab procedures to ensure quality patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to establish good working relationships with staff.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Knowledge of basic laboratory testing procedures and terminology.
• Knowledge of hospital laboratory operations and equipment.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.

Responsibilities

• Accessions patient information into the Laboratory system accurately.
• Check requests for proper patient information and accuracy.
• Notify appropriate personnel when samples are inappropriate or compromised.
• Distribute processed samples to the correct laboratory area and route STAT requests promptly.
• Answer phones and respond to status inquiries professionally.
• Print and fax reports, and handle report distribution.
• Provide orientation and training to Lab Assistants and new staff.
• Receive samples via various channels and maintain patient sample integrity.
