Job summary

Beacon Health System in Indiana seeks a Lab Technical Specialist to provide day-to-day technical and operational oversight for assigned laboratory sections and shifts, ensuring accurate, timely, and safe testing in line with policies and regulatory requirements.

You will supervise workflow, mentor staff, approve timecards, and coordinate instrument maintenance, while supporting quality control, proficiency testing, and LIS processes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in MLS/CLS; Bachelor’s preferred.
• Meets CLIA personnel qualifications for testing and delegated roles.
• At least four years of related clinical laboratory experience.
• Maintains licenses, certifications, training, and competency documentation.
• ASCP or equivalent certification required or within one year of hire.
• SBB (ASCP) preferred for blood bank assignments.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily workflow, staffing, schedules, and priorities for assigned areas.
• Oversee operations in the absence of the laboratory manager/director.
• Approve timecards, PTO requests, and other personnel actions.
• Provide technical consultation and troubleshoot testing, instrument, and LIS issues.
• Perform patient testing when needed and within training/authorization.
• Monitor QC/QA, proficiency testing, and performance indicators.
• Plan calibration, maintenance, and documentation for instruments.
