Job summary

UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh seeks a friendly phlebotomy technician to provide patient-focused services, schedule orders, and perform specimen collection in the Rex Outreach Client Services unit.

You will register patients in the EMR, obtain consent and financial information, and ensure accurate lab orders and timely communication with clinicians. Requires phlebotomy experience; high school diploma or GED; certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement.
• Phlebotomy certificate strongly preferred.
• If high school diploma, one year of phlebotomy experience required; otherwise, graduation from a phlebotomy program fulfills the experience requirement.

Responsibilities

• Wears PPE, maintains clean work areas, and restocks supplies at shift end.
• Demonstrates customer service skills when answering calls and messages; communicates lab results professionally.
• Registers patients, orders tests, and enters data into EMR/LIS systems; verifies consent and financial forms.
• Performs venipuncture, fingerstick, and culture collection; ensures patient ID throughout collection.
• Registers outreach specimens; labels and preserves specimens per SOPs; maintains specimen integrity.
• Maintains departmental supplies; prepares reagents; flags inventory concerns.
• Participates in training and continuing education; assists with SOPs and mandatory trainings.
