Job summary

UNC Health in Raleigh, NC is seeking a phlebotomist to perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing as part of Rex Lab Customer Svcs. The role supports clinical activities across the UNC Health system and requires attention to quality and workflow.

The schedule runs four 10-hour shifts weekly (3:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) with every third weekend. Prior phlebotomy experience or completion of a phlebotomy program is acceptable, with a full-time on-site work arrangement.

Qualifications

• One year of phlebotomy experience required, or graduation from a phlebotomy program.
• Experience in patient care and specimen handling is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consults with providers and patients about phlebotomy-related care.
• Ensure quality and accuracy of work and results.
• Investigate equipment, specimen, and workflow problems.
• May participate on teams or perform special projects.
• May train and teach new staff and students in phlebotomy.

Performs a variety of phlebotomy procedures and/or patient point-of-care testing in support of the clinical activities in the Healthcare System.

Schedule

3:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., consisting of four 10-hour shifts per week, with a requirement to work every third weekend.

Responsibilities

• Consults/confers with healthcare providers/patients regarding patient care as it relates to phlebotomy service issues.
• Ensures quality and accuracy of work.
• Investigates problems with equipment, patient results, specimens and/or workflow.
• May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
• May perform teaching and training of new employees, phlebotomy students and/or other healthcare providers.
• May review test results to ensure accuracy of reporting and timely correction of errors or report results to healthcare providers.
• Performs phlebotomy procedures, quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.
• Responsible for and/or ensures completion of daily work and assigned tasks. Monitors daily operation of laboratory work area.
