Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Laboratory Associate to support the patient care team with specimen collection, registration, order entry, processing, packaging, preparation and transport across multiple campuses.

The role performs phlebotomy across neonatal to geriatric patients, ensures quality control, maintains supplies, and acts as a liaison with customers to relay results and resolve issues. Weekend and holiday coverage is required.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of approved phlebotomy program required.
• Completion of Phlebotomy Internship preferred.
• 1 Year experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy Certification Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Appropriately prioritizes processing and transport of routine and stat specimens.
• Complies with all established guidelines to ensure integrity of all laboratory specimens.
• Inverts tubes, refrigeration when necessary, clotting and centrifugation.
• Successfully handles multiple tasks and changing priorities.
• Complies with all established regulations, policies and procedure regarding packaging and transport.
• Properly identifies patient/specimen using established policies.
• Performs specimen collection in an accurate and timely manner.
• Performs registration according to established policies in an accurate manner.
• Can perform all appropriate computer functions (print results, reprint labels, standing orders, batching)
• Maintains accurate, organized and legible written records (temperature logs, add-on, stericycle)
• Monitors supply inventory and maintains area in neat and organized manner.
• Utilizes hospital standards for proper phone etiquette.
