Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health's Clinical Laboratory seeks a Laboratory Assistant to join the team. Under the Laboratory Manager, you will accept, process, identify and label specimens per protocol, ensuring specimen integrity and proper handling across assigned stations.

The role involves operating automated instrumentation, possible weekend/holiday coverage, and routine administrative duties such as packing lists and requisitions. Training in phlebotomy is included; influenza vaccination is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to identify and evaluate proper specimen collection and storage.
• Interpersonal English language skills sufficient to exchange information with physicians and colleagues.
• Experience: 1 year related laboratory experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Ensures proper labeling and identification of specimens and requisition forms.
• Inventories and maintains adequate supplies for laboratories; restocks workstations.
• Monitors reagents and supplies; communicates needs for timely purchasing.
• Receives, archives, and discards specimens per procedures.
• Prepares benches and work stations for daily workload; reloads instruments and supplies.
• Assists with specimen receipt and triage; maintains quality monitoring methods.
• Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment; reports issues.
• Monitors satellite accumulation areas and transports chemical waste per policies.
