Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking a Lab Associate to perform specimen collection, handling, and clerical duties in a hospital laboratory setting. The role emphasizes accurate phlebotomy, patient interaction, and maintaining specimen integrity across various work sites.

Responsibilities include following physician orders, processing tests, and coordinating multiple tasks to meet turnaround times. A High School Diploma or GED is required, and an Associate's Degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in phlebotomy is preferred; BLS certification is recommended.
• Associate's Degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret physician orders and order tests in appropriate system.
• Perform phlebotomy, positive patient identification, and positive patient interaction; ensure specimen integrity. May work in outpatient lab, physician office, or off-campus patient service center.
• Sort and process specimens received by the laboratory and proficiently handle all specimens.
• Coordinate a simultaneous series of tasks accurately, including STAT orders and workload fluctuations, prioritizing work to meet turnaround times.
• May perform registration, inventory maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
