Job summary

BARNES JEWISH HOSPITAL is seeking a Lab Associate - Phlebotomist to join the team. You will perform specimen collection, handling and clerical duties, with experience in phlebotomy and related tasks such as central processing, in-office phlebotomy, or inventory management.

Responsibilities include interpreting orders, performing phlebotomy with proper ID, processing specimens, coordinating tasks to meet turnaround times, and possibly registration and inventory duties.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy experience is required.
• Experience with specimen handling and central processing is a plus.
• Familiarity with inventory management or in-office phlebotomy is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret physician orders and place tests in the proper system.
• Perform phlebotomy with proper patient identification and sample integrity.
• Sort and process lab specimens and support related duties.
• Coordinate tasks to meet turnaround times and workload flow.
• May assist with registration and inventory as needed.

Role Purpose

Perform specimen collection, specimen handling and clerical duties. Experienced in phlebotomy and proficient in performing additional tasks such as central processing duties, in-office phlebotomy, or inventory management.

Responsibilities

• Interpret physician orders and order tests in appropriate system.
• Perform phlebotomy, positive patient identification, and positive patient interaction, proper collection and specimen integrity. May work in outpatient lab, in physician office, or off campus patient service center.
• Sort and process specimens received by the laboratory and proficiently handle all specimens received in the lab.
• Coordinates a simultaneous series of tasks accurately, including STAT orders and fluctuation in workload, prioritizing work to complete within scheduled hours and established turnaround times.
• May perform registration, inventory maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
