Job summary

Great River Health Systems seeks a Lab Assistant/Client Services Clerk to collect specimens, register patients, and manage laboratory orders and reports. The role requires accuracy in patient identification, specimen labeling, and coordinating with lab staff.

You will also answer calls, triage, label, transport samples, and assist with waived testing as needed. Proficiency in Word/Excel and preferred phlebotomy experience are expected.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required.
• Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse preferred.
• Medical terminology preferred.
• Clinical experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Computer classes/experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood or other specimens, register patients, order tests and distribute reports.
• Answer phone calls and triage to appropriate staff; label specimens and transport samples.
• Explain collection procedures and ensure absolute accuracy in patient identification.
• Set up specimens and may perform waived laboratory testing.
• Process, package and send out specimens/cases to reference labs.
• Receive and transcribe messages into patient records; route results appropriately.
• Transmit results via pneumatic tube, mail, email or fax; maintain documentation.
• Clean work area and maintain equipment; ensure inventory is stocked.
• Reconcile billing with interdepartmental collaboration.
