Job summary

Great River Health Systems in Iowa is seeking a Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist to collect and process specimens, register patients, order tests, label samples, and relay results. Must demonstrate absolute accuracy in patient identification and specimen handling.

Responsibilities include handling calls, transporting samples between sites, may perform waived tests, and maintain equipment and inventory. Requires GED or higher, cert CMA or LPN preferred, knowledge of medical terminology;

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required.
• Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
• Licensed Practical Nurse preferred.
• Medical terminology preferred.
• Clinical hospital experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of Word and Excel software.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood or other laboratory specimens and register patients.
• Order laboratory tests and sort/distribute reports.
• Label specimens accurately and ensure correct patient identification.
• Transport samples between collection sites and the laboratory.
• Explain procedures to patients and assist with waived testing as applicable.
• Maintain equipment and inventory and assist with billing reconciliation.
