Job summary

Paradise Valley Hospital in National City, part of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical processes under supervision.

Responsibilities include specimen collection (where certified), clerical duties, patient greeting, and maintaining storage areas across departments with attention to CLIA guidelines and California regulations. Certification and phlebotomy skills are required or preferred per role.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Active California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II license required for individuals performing phlebotomy.
• Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.
• BLS certification within forty-five days of hire and maintained current, according to hospital requirement.
• Minimum of 1 year clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform computer entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
• Demonstrate professional telephone etiquette and greet patients and visitors courteously.
• Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Demonstrate knowledge of phlebotomy practices; performs venipuncture or skin puncture only if appropriately certified per California law.
• Process specimens across laboratory departments including pathology, microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank limited to pre-analytical activities.
• Prepare and process specimens for reference laboratories.
• Stock and order routine supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage areas, equipment, centrifuges, and collection sites.
