SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for receiving biological specimens, preparing samples for analysis, and performing tests. The role reports to the department supervisor and collaborates closely with lab technical personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide excellent customer service through professional attitude and interaction with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Support team members in embodying TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication.
- Follow TMCH organizational and department-specific safety and confidentiality policies.
- Perform basic technical procedures as assigned, based on department needs, under supervision, adhering to established policies and performance standards.
- Understand and utilize department computer systems to generate work lists and documentation.
- Carry out routine laboratory procedures according to protocols and schedules.
- Handle, store, and dispose of bio-hazardous, infectious, radioactive, and toxic materials safely.
- Participate in quality control, safety, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Ensure compliance with accrediting and regulatory standards relevant to the department.
- Conduct basic maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Coordinate and route specimens appropriately within the laboratory.
- Perform additional duties within guidelines to meet turnaround times.
TMC Rincon
Lab Assistants at TMC Rincon will also undertake Phlebotomy responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: At least 1 month of related laboratory experience.
- Licensure/Certification: None required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in maintaining, processing, and recording lab samples and specimens.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, operation manuals, and procedure documents.
- Capable of completing routine reports and correspondence accurately.
- Excellent listening skills to interpret instructions and communicate effectively.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Apply common sense to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
- Handle problems involving straightforward variables in standardized situations.
