Job summary

Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support specimen receiving and processing, patient registration, and order entry. You will centrifuge, label, aliquot, and deliver specimens, while ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to safety standards.

The role requires at least two years of laboratory or patient care experience, familiarity with laboratory information systems, and the ability to work flexible hours to meet department needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Two years of laboratory or patient care experience.
• Ability to work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Provides support in patient registration and third party reimbursement requirements.
• Maintains department supplies and customer supply orders.
• Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection and handling requirements.
• Performs departmental functions and uses hospital LIS and other systems.
• Maintains positive customer service relationships and responds to inquiries.
• Processes pathology specimens as appropriate.
• Trains staff as required.
• Reads a Physician's laboratory test order.
• Schedules Pathologists, Histotechnicians or Transportation Reps as needed.
• May perform phlebotomy with approved competency on file.
