Job summary

Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital is seeking a dedicated laboratory professional to join our team. The role performs specimen handling, registers patients, processes orders, and helps maintain a compliant, efficient lab workflow in a busy hospital setting.

You will stock supplies, assist with cleaning equipment, greet callers, and support the laboratory's quality improvement program while ensuring patient confidentiality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy skills and basic clinical lab knowledge.
• Ability to follow lab policies and safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and paperwork accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen receiving and processing duties.
• Register patients and enter orders into the system.
• Centirfuge specimens; label, aliquot and deliver samples to testing sites.
• Stock supplies and assist with maintaining lab equipment.
• Greet department guests and answer calls; report activities to oncoming staff.
• Support charting and report distribution via phone or fax as needed.
• Contribute to the lab’s quality improvement program and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

What you will do

• Stocks supplies, prepares and stocks reagents.
• Assist in maintaining and cleaning of laboratory equipment, i.e., refrigerators, centrifuges.
• Answers the telephone and greets guests to the department.
• Reports work activities and pending work to the oncoming staff.
• Process requests and specimens for reference laboratories.
• Performs all departmental functions and has knowledge of hospital and laboratory information systems.
• Follows the established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Responsible for maintaining an active role in the laboratory Quality Improvement Program.
• Documents specimen quality issues.
• Practices infection control and safety practices and keeps a clean and organized work area.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient record, hospital and departmental matters at all times.
• Performs filing of reports and requisitions.
• Assists with charting and report distribution via telephone, fax, or as appropriate.
• Maximizes productivity, customer satisfaction and profitability.
• May perform phlebotomy as necessary (must have approved competency on file before completing).

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred
