Overview

Lab Assistant II - Histology - Marietta, GA - Sunday - Thursday 9:00PM-5:00AM

Performs routine and limited non-routine functions to assist in the preparation of histopathology samples.

Pay Range: $17.20+ per hour; Employee may be eligible for shift differentials of 10% for some or all hours on the second shift and 15% for some or all hours on the third shift. Additional details will be provided if an offer is extended.

Responsibilities:

1. Perform routine and limited non-routine activities involved in preparing slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, under supervision.
2. Receive, label, and prepare tissue specimens for dissection.
3. Maintain and clean equipment regularly.
4. Perform cover slipping of stained slides manually and automatically.
5. Conduct routine H&E staining manually or automatically.
6. Prepare reagents for tissue processing and staining under supervision.
7. Manage paperwork related to accessioning and reporting.
8. Handle clerical duties, monitor pending lists, and generate department statistics if applicable.
9. Maintain inventory, requisition supplies, and ensure laboratory cleanliness and safety.
10. Use personal protective equipment and adhere to safety policies.
11. Assist technical staff with limited technical functions as trained.
12. Perform other duties as assigned, noting this list is not exhaustive.

Qualifications:

Required:

• At least 1 year of histopathology or laboratory experience.
• 1 year of experience handling PHI and using LIS.

Preferred:

• 3 years of histopathology or lab experience, supporting pathologists.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

• Lift objects from 1 to 50 pounds with frequency and occasionally, with assistance.
• Stand and work at the bench for extended periods.
• Walk and stand frequently.
• Use various laboratory instruments requiring manual dexterity.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Basic knowledge of operating simple instrumentation.
• Ability to follow procedures accurately, work independently, prioritize tasks, and multitask efficiently.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Maintain confidentiality of client information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.
• Typing speed of 6,000 keystrokes/hour.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
