AdventHealth in Florida is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform cytopreparatory staining, specimen handling, and several related duties in a clinical lab. The role involves processing specimens, maintaining quality controls, and participating in performance improvement activities.

Candidates should have a high school diploma and relevant technical training, with strong English communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, measure, reason, and exercise judgment with supervision.
• Ability to use computer applications and electronic devices.
• Mature judgment and ability to handle confidential information within guidelines.

Responsibilities

• May perform cytopreparatory staining and accessions surgical cases with knowledge of anatomy.
• May receive and set up primary specimen cultures, inoculating petri dishes for bacterial growth.
• May clean and disinfect laboratory equipment and spaces, maintaining inventory control and supply stocking.
• Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities, including evaluating new equipment and procedures.
• Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and supports education to clinical staff.
• Follows safety policies including PPE use, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
• Demonstrates adherence to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
• Collects patient, physician, and test order information to create patient accounts.
• May perform blood specimen collection, including phlebotomy and skin puncture for all ages.
• May perform point of care testing, quality control, maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation and result reporting.
• Receives, processes, and transports patient specimens, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Loads preanalytical instruments or delivers specimens to the testing department.
• Transport of hazardous waste with training and proper PPE.
• May perform blood component processing and handling using a Transfusion Information System.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
