Job summary

AdventHealth in Florida is seeking a Laboratory Technician with phlebotomy skills to support specimen collection and processing in a busy hospital lab. You will prepare cultures, process specimens, and assist in ensuring accurate test results while maintaining strict safety and infection control standards.

The role emphasizes teamwork, customer service, and proficiency with computer systems and MS Office. A High School diploma and phlebotomy training are required or preferred, with opportunities

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equivalent required.
• Technical/Vocational School preferred.
• Completion of phlebotomy training program preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification or training may be required depending on unit.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• May perform cytopreparatory staining and accessions surgical cases with knowledge of anatomy.
• May receive and set up primary specimen cultures, inoculating petri dishes for bacterial growth.
• May clean and disinfect laboratory equipment and spaces, maintaining inventory control and supply stocking.
• Participates in laboratory improvement activities, including evaluating new equipment and procedures.
• Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and supports education to clinical staff.
• Follows appropriate safety policies including PPE use, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
• Collects patient, physician, and test order information to create accounts, verifying identification and insurance.
• May perform phlebotomy and blood specimen collection for all ages.
• Performs support activities to facilitate operation of department, including answering calls and clerical tasks.
• May perform point of care testing with quality control and reporting.
