Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Technician to organize specimen collection, perform phlebotomy-like tasks, and support pre-analytic duties. You will collect samples, label, transport, and process specimens while adhering to standard procedures and Lean principles.

The role includes varied shifts, with evenings as primary, and a $1,500 sign-on bonus. A high school diploma or associate degree plus lab experience is required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 1 year of related laboratory experience required.
• High School or GED Equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood and other specimens from patients per established standards.
• Labels, transports or stores collected specimens following Lean Principles.
• Processes specimens including centrifuging, measuring, and distribution to testing areas.
• Completes patient registration, test order data entry and pertinent databases.
• Identifies and resolves routine specimen acceptability and test order problems.
• Interprets test orders to determine collection time and specimen types.
• Performs point-of-care testing according to standards.
• Maintains and distributes supplies and inventories.
