Job summary

Charles River Laboratories is seeking an Animal Support Technician I to join the Insourcing Solutions team on the NIH campus in Bethesda. The role involves maintaining animal health, housing, and environment across multiple client facilities, performing daily care, cage changes, sanitation, and environmental enrichment as required.

This floater position may also support sites in Poolesville, Gaithersburg, Baltimore, or DC, with Bethesda as the primary assignment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in biology/animal science or related with a minimum of 6 months’ animal handling experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in biology/animal science or related field no experience required.
• AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain health, production and environment in client lab animal facilities.
• Perform animal care including food/water, cage changes, sanitation, and enrichment.
• Record animal breeding, health, and housing information; report health concerns and administer treatments.
• Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by supervisor.
• Follow safety procedures for housing areas, PPE use and sanitation.
