Job summary

UTHealth Houston is seeking an Animal Attendant to care for laboratory animals under supervision, adhering to humane and sanitary practices. You will perform cage cleaning, feeding, and daily care while following established procedures and safety rules.

The role includes learning from hands-on training, assisting with census and documentation, and supporting facility maintenance. This is a full-time position based in Texas.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: high school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform custodial tasks and animal care duties.
• Willingness to follow established procedures and safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily animal care including cage changing, feeding and watering with routine sanitation.
• Processes dirty equipment through the automated cage wash facility.
• Cleans large animal caging, sanitizes rooms, equipment and hallways.
• Learns and assists in animal census and required documentation.
• Operates washers and dryers to wash and dry scrubs; folds laundry for pickup.
• Observes animals for health changes and notifies supervisor or veterinary group as appropriate.
• Learns proper techniques and skills through training.
• Monitors PPE supplies; assists with facility maintenance and floors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
