Job summary

UTMB Health seeks a skilled laboratory animal caregiver to provide humane, safe animal care in a multi-species facility. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of lab animal experience.

You will feed, cage, census, and monitor animals daily, assist with breeding records, and maintain accurate documentation while following safety and sanitation protocols. Training will be provided to enhance laboratory animal science knowledge.

Qualifications

• Must have high school or equivalent and one year of laboratory animal experience.
• Ability to feed and water animals and monitor health status.
• Proficient in keeping accurate animal records and census.
• Compliance with safety, sanitation and regulatory practices.

Responsibilities

• Feed and water animals as specified.
• Perform daily census of animals.
• Change animal caging as scheduled and sanitize rooms/equipment.
• Assist in maintenance of animal records.
• Observe animals for behavior changes or disease and notify staff.
• Provide routine treatment for common conditions and identify animals.
• Assist in breeding colony operations and record-keeping.
• Participate in in-house training to advance knowledge in laboratory animal science.
• Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
