Job summary

PMCS Group is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager to support the BOE on the L.A. Convention Center Expansion and Modernization Project.

You will provide owner’s representative oversight of MEP systems during construction and commissioning in a fast-paced design-build environment. The ideal candidate has hands-on MEP field experience on large, occupied facilities, strong knowledge of CA codes, and proficiency with PMIS tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of construction management/MEP coordination, with at least 3 years on $100M+ projects.
• Experience with MEP on large public assembly, institutional, or commercial facilities.
• Working knowledge of California building codes, Title 24, and commissioning processes.
• Proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam, and document-control/PMIS platforms (e.g., e-Builder, Procore, Unifier)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Support the Construction Manager in daily oversight of MEP, fire protection, and low-voltage scopes for the City.
• Review design-build submittals, shop drawings, product data for conformance with codes and standards.
• Coordinate with design-builder, A/E, and City stakeholders on RFIs and design clarifications.
• Observe MEP installation, identify deficiencies, document non-conforming work, verify corrective action.
• Assist with phasing and shutdown coordination affecting occupied spaces and central systems.
• Coordinate with LADWP, SoCalGas, and telecom providers on service upgrades.
• Coordinate with LADBS, LAFD, and other authorities on inspections and sign-offs.
• Review CPM schedules and flag risks to Olympic Readiness milestones.
• Support change proposals, cost submissions, and independent estimates.
• Witness equipment start-up, testing, balancing, and commissioning; track Cx log.
• Prepare daily/weekly progress reports and technical BOE updates.
• Support closeout activities including punch list, O&M turnover, and warranty documentation.
